Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has expressed Pakistan’s desire to strengthen bilateral relations with Japan following the re-election of Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi. In a message posted on X, the Prime Minister congratulated Takaichi on her historic victory and reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to further deepen and diversify ties between the two countries.
“We look forward to continue working with Prime Minister Takaichi to further strengthen and diversify our excellent bilateral relations with Japan,” Shehbaz Sharif said. President Asif Ali Zardari also congratulated the Japanese leader, wishing her success in leading a strong and prosperous Japan.
Takaichi secured a landmark electoral win, with her Liberal Democratic Party capturing 316 of the 465 seats in lower house of Parliament, its best-ever result. Together with coalition partner Japan Innovation Party (Ishin), she now controls a two-thirds supermajority, easing the passage of legislation and allowing her to override the upper chamber.
Following the victory, Takaichi said the election reflected public backing for major policy shifts, including changes in economic and fiscal policy and a stronger focus on security. International leaders also welcomed the outcome, with US President Donald Trump congratulating Takaichi and praising her decision to call early elections.
Takaichi’s renewed mandate is expected to shape Japan’s domestic and foreign policy direction, creating opportunities for Pakistan to advance cooperation in trade, investment, and regional engagement.
